Abstract
Discusses the ordinary transition of the semi-infinite q-state Potts model within the Migdal-Kadanoff renormalisation group scheme. Approximate surface free energies are calculated in dimension D=2. In addition, the effect of symmetry breaking surface fields is considered. The scheme predicts that only one such field is relevant. Keywords
