Abstract
Magnetometric measurements indicate that when the magnetization of cobalt films is reversed by the application of fields at angles greater than grazing incidence, switching occurs when the field component Hsin the film plane is less than the coercivity HcCurves of Hsversus the vertical field component Hyare shown for cobalt tapes and Co-P films. This effect has been shown to influence the writing process and could be used to facilitate the switching of the high coercivity films necessary for high packing density systems. Keywords
