LAPAROSCOPY IN INFERTILITY

Abstract
Two series of patients from the Infertility Clinic of The Women's Hospital (Crown Street) are presented. In the first group of 54 patients, 23 were thought to be completely normal after routine investigations, including hysterosalpingography; subsequent laparoscopy demonstrated pelvic disease in 14 (60%) of these “normal” patients. In the second group of 46 patients, after male fertility had been established and a positive result from Sims' test had been obtained, laparoscopy was then performed as the only other investigation; pelvic findings were abnormal in 23 cases (50%) and normal in 22 (48%). It is suggested that laparoscopy is a most valuable adjunct in the examination of an Infertile woman and can provide information which cannot be obtained by some of the traditional methods of investigation.
