Abstract
A study was made of the effects of tubocurarine, alcuronium, pancuronium and suxamethonium on arterial pressure, pulse rate, and rate of development of neuromuscular block in the hypothenar muscles in eighty-eight patients about to undergo major cardiac surgery. Pancuronium produced little fall in pressure as compared with tubocurarine and alcuronium. Suxamethonium caused a slight rise in pressure. The times to 95 per cent depression of twitch height and intubation were longest with tubocurarine and alcuronium and shortest following suxamethonium. The possible advantages and disadvantages of the agents are discussed. Keywords
