Unruly Scalp Hair in Infancy: Its Nature and Relevance to Problems of Brain Morphogenesis

Abstract
Unusual scalp hair patterns of frontal upsweep and aberrant parietal whorls were previously reported; a 3rd type, unruly hair over the top of the scalp, was presented. Hair scalp patterns were assessed in children with Down''s Syndrome or de Lange syndrome; those with the smallest skull circumference had the greatest occurrence of unruly hair. Extreme unruliness may be a potential indicator of problems in early morphogenesis of the brain, prior to 16 wk of fetal life.
