Apparent viscosity during simple shearing flow of nematic liquid crystals

Abstract
An experimentally useful relation for the dependence of the apparent viscosity on the shearing force is derived. Reasonable simplifying assumptions are introduced into the continuum theory and the asymptotic behaviour of the apparent viscosity for a large shearing force is then derived.Keywords
