Abstract
Pullen M. J. and Proops J. L. R. (1983) The North Staffordshire regional economy: an input-output assessment, Reg. Studies 17, 191–200. A survey based input-output model of the North Staffordshire regional economy has been constructed. The value and employment multipliers are assessed and a case study compares predicted and observed indirect unemployment effects resultant upon employment contraction in certain identified industrial sectors. The employment multipliers are used to estimate the likely indirect impacts of contraction in the tableware and local government sectors. By comparing economic and geographical linkage between North Staffordshire industries, those industries identified as particularly suited to expansion in the region are general engineering, and packaging products of paper and board. Keywords
