Enzymatic Formation of Cardiolipin from Phosphatidylglycerol by the Transphosphatidylation Mechanism Catalyzed by Phospholipase D

Abstract
The enzymatic formation of cardiolipin-3H from purified phosphatidylglycerol-2′-3H catalyzed by phospholipase D is described. Some general conditions for this formation are studied and discussed. The formation of cardiolipin is independent of cytidine coenzymes and takes place by a transphosphatidylation reaction mechanism in which phosphatidylglycerol serves as the acceptor and as the donor of the phosphatidyl group.
