Abstract
A basic protein isolated from human peripheral nerve was found to produce allergic encephalomyelitis in guinea pigs with very little neuritis. Immunologic cross-reactivity was found between the peripheral basic protein and a known encephalitogenie basic protein from human central nervous tissue. This suggests that human central and peripheral nervous tissue basic proteins are very similar if not identical. Keywords
