Abstract
The naturiuretic response to an acutely administered intravenous Na solution (125 mEq/L) was studied under controlled conditions in 5 normotensive subjects and after elevation of the blood pressure with the pressor amine, metaraminol. Under the described conditions, there was an augmented natriuretic response in all the subjects. Na excretion was 2 to 4 times greater than when responding to a similar Na load without metaraminol. Metaraminol alone did not increase Na excretion. This augmented response was present at 2 different levels of dietary Na intake (10 and 150 mEq).Keywords
