Patients' Perceptions of Nursing Home Stress Related to Quality of Care

Abstract
The purpose of this study was twofold: to determine whether newly admitted nursing home patients' anticipated stresses of institutional care would relate to their experiences of stress 1 and 3 months later; and to determine if patients' experiences of stress would correspond to independent judgments of the quality of the nursing homes. Overall, patients experienced the kinds of stresses they anticipated, and their experiences corresponded to judgments of the quality of the homes. Patients placed in poorer quality homes experienced greater need for tender loving care across all time periods.
