Time dependence of spin conversion in solid 13CH3D by nuclear magnetic resonance

Abstract
The time dependence of the proton spin-species conversion has been observed in an annealed sample of 13CH3D containing ~0.4% oxygen impurities. At temperatures between 1.8 and 4 K, equilibrium between spin-species was obtained in less than 20 min. This time is nearly three orders of magnitude shorter than a value previously reported for the same sample at 11.4 K. The difference is ascribed to an improper establishment of orientational order in Phase III dining the original experiment. The temperature dependence of the proton second moment is also reported between 1.8 and 25 K.
