Abstract
To the Editor: A recent report in this journal described the development of tolerance and dependence with the use of pentazocine (Talwin).1 It seems important also to emphasize the hallucinogenic potential of this drug.At 4 a.m. on May 16, 1969, a 25-year-old woman was seen in a hospital emergency room for otitis media with severe earache. She was given a nasal decongestant and oral penicillin, which she did not use until the following day. For several days before, she had used a combination preparation of phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride, pheniramine maleate and pyrilamine maleate (Triaminic) but no other drugs.
