Abstract
Grape phylloxera, Daktulosphaira vitifoliae (Fitch) [= Phylloxera vitifollae (Fitch)], alates were trapped in French hybrid grapes in Ontario in 1965–67 and in Pennsylvania from 1971–73. In Ontario, sticky board traps were mounted on vineyard trellises; in Pennsylvania, sticky bands were placed around vine trunks. In Ontario, alates generally occurred from late July until late September, with peak activity occurring from mid-August to mid-September. Abundance varied from year to year and among vineyards. In Pennsylvania, it varied only slightly from year to year and among cultivars, but time of activity was different in each of the 3 yr and, to a lesser extent, among cultivars. In Ontario catches were higher on traps mounted 1.3 m above the ground than on those mounted 0.8 m above the ground, and declined as traps were mounted progressively higher above the vines. In Pennsylvania catches were not consistently higher on traps mounted 1.5 m above the ground than on those mounted 0.3 above the ground. Keywords
