Abstract
Recently, the attention shown to the territorial problems of the living standard and to determining the prospects for improving the material well-being of the population of union republics and economic regions has been mounting. This is reflected both in the practical activity of government organs as well as in the expansion of scientific research. Recent years have seen the adoption of a number of decisions to improve the regional regulation of wages: regional wage coefficients have been established for workers and employees in the Far East, Siberia, and the European North who previously did not have them; benefits have been expanded for personnel in the Far North and areas equated with it; retail prices on basic foodstuffs in the Far East have been lowered to the level of prices in zone II, etc. Keywords
