Abstract
Propranolol (Inderal - ICI) is now being promoted for the treatment of hypertension. It is claimed to be ‘at least as effective in reducing pressure as guanethidine, bethanidine and methyldopa’, while causing no postural hypotension or other unwanted effects of adrenergic blockade. However, its value for this purpose remains disputed. Keywords
