Abstract
The reduction in amplitude of the de Haas-van Alphen effect is calculated from the dephasing of the oscillations produced by the spatial variation of the strain. Expressions are obtained in terms of commonly used parameters which characterize the orbit and the metal, and it is shown that the effects are likely to be quite significant in crystals containing usual or slightly more than usual numbers of dislocations. Keywords
