Abstract
"Tween 80* as an emulsifying agent was administered in doses of from 4.5 to 15 g. per day with food or by mixing 2 g. with vit. A esters. In 8 patients with impaired absorption of vit. A esters, addition of the emulsifying agent to the vit.A caused an appreciable increase in the uptake of fat-soluble vit. A. Addition of "Tween 80" to the diet reduced the fecal fat from as much as 14% of the dietary intake to 3%. In a case of sprue with impaired fat absorption, the 1st 9 months constituted a control period without any gain in wt. In the 2d 9-months period the patient, on a similar regimen plus "Tween 80," gained 21 lbs., with a progressive decrease in stool fat loss from 22 g. during the control period to 7 g. during the period of supplementation with "Tween 80.".Keywords
