Abstract
Gamma or x-radiation applied to the region of the female breast in the early years of life may result in underdevelopment of the mammae. Two patients are reported who were treated with radium emanation for cutaneous hemangiomas and suffered subsequent failure of proper development of breasts. Since spontaneous involution of such hemangiomas does not result in breast atrophy, radiation therapy is of necessity implicated as the causative factor in this anatomical area and, therefore, should be avoided as a modality of treatment.
