Abstract
We induce a permanent second-order nonlinearity in phosphorus and germania doped optical fibres via simultaneous excitation and orientation of defect centres. Modal phase-matching is used for frequency-doubling of 1.208μm radiation and we investigate the effect of nonuniform nonlinearities on the second-harmonic conversion efficiency. Keywords
