Abstract
To the Editor: The teratogenic action of cannabis extract in pregnant rats,1 hamsters2 and rabbits3 has been reported. It seems important to establish to what extent the major psychoactive component of cannabis, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), can cross the placenta and when during pregnancy the fetus is exposed to its effect. l-Δ8-Tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ8-THC) prepared according to the procedure of Mechoulam et al.4 was labeled with the use of a tritium-hydrogen exchange reaction. The purified Δ8-THC-H3 was converted into a mixture of Δ8-and Δ9-THC-H3 as previously reported,4 , 5 and the Δ9-isomer was separated by column chromatography . . .Keywords
