POSITIVE FEEDBACK EFFECT OF PROGESTIN UPON SERUM GONADOTROPINS IN ESTROGEN-PRIMED CASTRATE MEN1

Abstract
Progestin administration to 5 estrogen-suppressed castrate men was shown to have a significant positive feedback effect on LH release in all, and on FSH release in 3 of the 5 subjects. These results together with data from other studies showing a similar response in castrate and postmenopausal women, demonstrate that this positive feedback phenomenon is not sex-specific and cannot be used as evidence for a sex-related difference in hypothalamo-hypophyseal function.
