Abstract
In January, 1923, Dr. J. W. McNee and I read a paper before the Dermatological Section of the Royal Society of Medicine in London, describing a case of sclerema neonatorum. In this case, the patient developed a cystic swelling in one of the sclerema patches which at first was thought to be an abscess, but which when opened was found to contain broken-down fat and acicular crystals. Some interesting histologic and chemical investigations made on the fat of this infant were reported, together with some observations on the fat of an older infant who had developed a sclerematous condition as a terminal feature in a fatal attack of epidemic diarrhea. This paper was not published at the time because it was felt that, as some new facts had come to light, it would be better to wait and try to confirm them in other cases. No further case came under
