Absorption spectrum of bismuth in the region 2300–1250 Å, using the flash pyrolysis technique

Abstract
The absorption spectrum of bismuth was photographed in the region 2300–1250 Å on a 3-m normal incidence spectrograph. The absorption cell consisted of a flash pyrolysis system and the background continuum source was a Garton flash lamp. The spectrum has been revised and extended. The series based on 6p2(3P)ns and 6p2(3P)nd were extended to n = 20 in many cases. All the ionization limits have been reduced by 25 cm−1. Seventeen wide autoionized lines are reported. Eight Bi II lines were also observed in the absorption.
