Abstract
A one-dimensional model atom consisting of an attractive delta function at the origin is subjected to a train of delta kicks modelling microwave (laser) ionisation of a real atom. The continuum is taken into account in various approximations which are finally compared with the full (numerical) solution of the model. It is shown that neglecting continuum-continuum interactions is an excellent approximation in the case of kicks of alternating sign. Keywords
