Abstract
The deformation‐dipole model for alkali halides is extended to include anharmonic effects. The linear coefficient of thermal expansion of KBr is calculated without adjustable parameters. Anharmonicities in the nearest‐neighbor overlap forces, in the long‐range Coulomb forces, and in the deformability of the ions are included in the model. Good agreement with experiment is obtained. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
