Abstract
The letter describes a cryogenic millimetre-wave heterodyne radiometer developed at the Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory and used for radio astronomical observations on the United Kingdom infra-red telescope, Hawaii. Single-sideband-system noise temperatures of 1600 and 1900 K have been achieved at frequencies of 230 and 271 GHz, respectively, with the system cooled to 77 K.Keywords
