Abstract
A sudden pediatric death is a devastating event. Two nurse educators have developed a step-by-step model of education and practice that addresses the needs of family and hospital staff members who are involved in a sudden infant death. The program includes specific suggestions to prepare the health care team in advance, assist them in coping with the tragedy when it occurs, and allow them to care for the family of the victim in a useful and supportive way. Although sudden infant death forms the focus of the model, the program may be adaptable to other sudden death situations, such as accidents and suicides. Keywords
