The Bile and the Pancreatic Ferments in Normal Infants and Children

Abstract
Bile examination was carried out on 40 cases of normal infants and children, and the following results were obtained. The mean of pH was 6.7 and pH was slightly low in the age between 1 and 6 years, but there was not a wide difference among A-, B- and C-biles. The volume of gallbladder increased according to the age. Bile pigments in gallbladder had a tendency to increase according to the age, and were concentrated 4.0-15.6 fold as compared with A-bile and there was no disparity of age. Amylase level in the duodenal fluid was closely connected with pH and the lowest level in a fasting stage was 160 Units after Wohlgemuth''s method. Lipase level in the duodenal fluid was not so closely connected with pH. There was no disparity of age in amylase and lipase level. Amylase level was likely to be high in A-bile and lipase level in C-bile.
