Abstract
In a recent extensive study of the fine structure of B. polymyxa cell walls, an ordered macromolecular arrangement was demonstrated on the surface of whole cells and wall fragments. This structure was composed of a rectangular array of 70 A globules with a repeating interval of 100 A. Among the bacilli, this superficial proteinaceous layer was only present in some species. Negative staining of B.cereus ATCC 4342 revealed a similar ordered substructure on the cell surface. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
