Abstract
To the Editor.— Storms reports the drinking by mistake of an unknown quantity of chloroform by a 19-yearold boy at a "chloroform party" (225:160,1973). He comments that "In previous reports, chloroform ingestion has been due to an accident or a suicidal gesture..." and that to his knowledge "this is the first report of 'chloroform parties' where this drug is voluntarily inhaled or ingested." Readers interested in this issue may wish to note that I reported on "Chloroform habituation" in theBulletin Of The Menninger Clinic(9:12-17, 1945). The 35-year-old patient had inhaled chloroform with great frequency over a period of 1 1/2 years to satisfy various psychological needs and for the feeling of exhilaration that he experienced from it.
