Abstract
For pt.I see ibid., vol.10, p.2639 (1977). Elastic scattering of electrons by atoms is considered in the approximation of using polarised atom states, which gives a system of coupled differential equations. Solutions for large r(r>rN) are obtained using the method of the previous paper in this series. Solutions in the finite range 0N are obtained on reducing the differential equations to linear algebraic equations and then using partitioned matrices to reduce the many-channel problem to an effective one-channel problem. The effects of target distortion are represented by a matrix operator nu (t,s) which is a discrete-ordinate approximation to an integral operator. Numerical results for e-H scattering show that nu is markedly non-local and has a variation with energy which is significant but not pronounced. Keywords
