Abstract
The question of the optimal dimensions of an enterprise is inseparably connected with the more general problem of the optimal forms of organization of social production — of concentration, specialization, cooperation, and combination — and represents a part of this general problem. It is important to emphasize this aspect since, to a considerable extent, it determines the methodology for research on the question, which must be resolved from the point of view of total social production as a whole, and for ensuring a maximal increase in labor productivity in all rather than only some sector of social production. Herein is the essential peculiarity in the approach to the solution of the problem in a socialist economy, unlike in a capitalist one where the optimum is determined proceeding from the interests of a single enterprise. Keywords
