Intraocular Pressure in Cushing’s Syndrome

Abstract
An ophthalmological examination was done on a group of 70 patients with Cushing’s syndrome. In 47 cases, ophthalmodynamometry was used before and after the operation. The intraocular pressure (IOP), brachial and ophthalmic blood pressure were measured. The cerebrovascular resistance (CVR) and the cerebral blood flow (CBF) were calculated using the method of Niesel and Ismiridis (modification by Weigelin and Lob-stein). After adrenalectomy, a diminution of the IOP, CVR, CBF, brachial and ophthalmic blood pressure occurred. A significant relationship (r = 0.49) was found between the IOP and the mentioned circulatory factors. The measure of determination of only 24% (r2) for the interdependence of the multiple correlation shows that other more important factors must be present which are responsible for the diminution of the IOP after the operation. Most probably, a change of facility of aqueous outflow had occurred.
