Abstract
An animal model [the rabbit] demonstrates the superiority of fluorescein fluorescence over that of standard clinical criteria in determining intestinal viability. Fluorescein is a readily available, inexpensive, noninjurious, simple and reliable means of assessing viability of the compromised intestine.
