Abstract
Recognition of the clinical symptoms and signs that indicate the heart is no longer adequately fulfilling its prime mission as a pump depends less on the use of sophisticated techniques than on a systematic probing of the history, physical signs, and x-ray findings. A step-by-step approach is outlined through which a complete and harmonious picture may be obtained to serve as a basis for treatment. Keywords
