ADRENAL VENOGRAPHY: CLINICAL-ROENTGENOGRAPHIC CORRELATION IN 80 PATIENTS

Abstract
Adrenal venography in a series of 80 patients was useful in demonstrating the cortical tumors associated with Cushing’s syndrome and virilization. Eight of 17 patients with Cushing’s syndrome due to adrenocortical hyperfunction had roentgenographically enlarged glands. This technique was successful in roentgenographically demonstrating 6 of 10 tumors associated with primary aldosteronism. The lesion was correctly lateralized in all patients who had assay of adrenal venous blood performed. Phenochromocytomas may also be demonstrated by this technique but aortography and selective arteriography must also be performed since these tumors may be extraadrenal.
