Abstract
Amoxicillin and ampicillin were administered orally in 500-mg doses to eight fasting volunteers. The mean peak concentration in serum was 7.6 µg/ ml for amoxicillin and 3.3 µg/ml for ampicillin. Amoxicillin gave measurable levels in serum at 8 hr in all volunteers, whereas ampicillin attained these levels in only three of eight. Urinary excretion was 60% for amoxicillin, compared with 34% for ampicillin. The serum half-lives of both agents were 1 hr.Keywords
