Circulating Immune Complexes and the Treatment of Wegener’s Granulomatosis

Abstract
Circulating immune complex levels have been measured using four different assay systems in 2 patients with Wegeners granulomatosis during active and inactive disease and during different treatments. Changes in complex levels (particularly those containing IgG) have correlated well with disease activity and may be the first indication of relapse enabling treatment to be started before irreversible tissue damage has occurred. Cyclophosphamide, initially combined with plasmapheresis, has proved the most effective treatment available.
