Abstract
A general model for the production of massive lepton pairs is discussed with emphasis on the predicted distributions of mass, transverse momentum, and longitudinal momentum. A comparison with proton-proton experiments is given and the fit is satisfactory for all three distributions. The model is essentially the constituent-interchange-model approach to large-transverse-momentum reactions and no new parameters are needed. In a specific kinematic limit, it predicts the same mass distribution as the Drell-Yan model, a broad power-behaved transverse-momentum distribution, and allows two independent ways of normalizing the rate. Keywords
