Abstract
The possibility that potentials which describe matter in general relativity obey nonlinear differential equations with solitary waves as solutions is studied. A particular model wherein the metric as well as the matter can propagate as solitary waves is presented. Explicit solutions to this model are exhibited. In these solutions either the matter or the metric or both propagate as a single soliton. The use of soliton solutions to represent concentrations of matter is briefly discussed. Keywords
