Abstract
The basic phase diagram of a system with a repulsive step interaction potential is constructed on the basis of simple physical arguments by using the properties of a system of hard spheres as the starting point. Various versions of the behavior of the melting curve are discussed. The possibility of a phase transition in the liquid phase is indicated. Keywords
