Abstract
The Miami Drum Site, located in a predominantly industrial area of Miami, is one of Florida's highest priority hazardous waste sites. Miami Drum Services, an inactive drum recycling facility, operated at this site for 15 yr. Field investigations determined that the soil and water helow this site were contaminated with high concentrations of phenols, heavy metals, oil and grease, pesticides, cyanide, and volatile organic compounds. The site is well within the cone of influence of the Medley, Miami Springs, and Preston well fields and presented a serious hazardous waste threat to the potable water supply for the greater Miami area. This paper describes the cleanup of this site and the feasibility study of remedial action alternatives. Keywords
