Abstract
Histological and bacteriological studies were made on white mice irradiated with x-rays. Universal radiation with 250-550 r resulted in a general infection with intestinal bacteria. Abdominal irradiation with the spleen and liver protected did not produce the infection characteristic of irradiation of the entire abdomen. The effect of irradiation was evidently damage to the protective functions of the intestinal epithelium and of the liver and spleen.
