An improved Synthesis for Dihydrazinechromium(II) chloride and other chromium(II) compounds

Abstract
The reduction of [Cr(H2O)4Cl2]Cl · 2 H2O in 3 N hydrochloric acid by means of 0.2% sodium amalgam under a nitrogen atmosphere, followed by addition of aqueous N2H4 provides a quick, convenient, and high‐yield synthesis for polymeric Cr(N2H4)Cl2. The product was identified by analysis, infra red spectra, and physical and chemical properties. With appropriate modifications, the method is applicable to the preparation of other chromium(II) compounds.
