Abstract
The effects of nitrogen dioxide on the aldolase enzyme system of the rat was investigated, in vitro studies were made by bubbling NO2 (33ppm) directly into the homogenates of lung tissue. The rates of flow of the gas were varied at 4.0, 3.0, 2.5, and 2.0 liters per minute. It was found that there was increased enzyme activity due to exposures of the tissue to the gas. As the amount of NO2 introduced to the tissue per minute was lowered, there was a decrease in the difference between exposed and nonexposed groups. Exposure at flows of less than 2.0 liter /min had an insignificant effect upon enzyme activity. Keywords
