Abstract
Any investigation into the complex relationship between deer and their habitats is influenced by the availability of the techniques, time and money. Investigators prefer the quickest and simplest technique that will provide reliable information at a reasonable cost. Such a system is discussed. Rumen samples of 1028 white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) were collected from 7 regions in Pennsylvania [USA] during 4 seasons beginning in Spring 1970. The method of analysis enabled the investigators to process from 80-100 samples/day, did not require expensive equipment and was uncomplicated. The laboratory technique is outlined and a data format by major food type is recommended. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
