Abstract
The costs of drug abuse are high, not only to the individual, but also to society at large. This review details these costs, and discusses the major medical hazards associated with abuse of cocaine, opiates and amphetamines. Both direct and indirect untoward effects of substance abuse are discussed. Keywords
