Abstract
General equations are obtained for the induction of electric currents in any thin-sheet distribution of conducting material by periodic or aperiodic fields. Methods of solving the equations for non-uniform plane sheets and spherical shells are considered. Numerical calculations for a special case of the plane sheet are made to illustrate some importent features. The case of the spherical shell is considered in some detail, with a view to geomagnetic applications. Methods of approximating to the solution when the conductivity is given as an empiric function are described.
