Abstract
This paper is concerned with the mechanism of indoleacetic acid induced inhibition of pectin trans eliminase (PTE); and with the effects of ozonolysis on citrus pectin. Evidence is presented which indicates that the [DELTA] 4:5 unsaturated product of PTE degradation has the ability to retard further action of the enzyme, that the inhibitory effect of the double bond product can be removed by treatment with ozone, and that indoleacetic acid and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid enhance the product inhibition of PTE but are not inhibitory in the absence of the product. It is suggested that auxins inhibit the action of PTE by formation of a triple complex between auxin, PTE and the unsaturated uronide.. Prolonged ozonation of citrus pectin results in trans eliminative degradation similar to that catalyzed by PTE.This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
